Computer Aided Education

With the ever-increasing use of computers in our society, it is now a common occurence to meet computer games and other, educational computer software in our everyday life. These programs vary in content and are aimed at a wide range of consumers.

In most such software, the student is presented with a goal and the steps the student needs to take to achieve this goal constitute a learning process. The student is in constant communication with the computer and through this interaction, he percieves the learning process as a game.

Education involving computers can be studied in two broad groups: Computer-supported education and computer-based learning. Computer-supported education is, as the name suggests, a support program. The student is not expected to undergo a learning experience that is independent from the teacher and the school environment. In computer-based learning, the user directly interacts with the computer to access the knowledge available there. He then uses his previous knowledge base to understand the knowledge stored in the computer and creates his own learning experience.

Such approaches can be taken as a revolution in the educational world. If this revolution can be carried out to completion successfully, the modern educators will be better equipped to teach the conceptual learning required for today's knowledge-based society.

For the successful completion of this revolution, the educators should be open to new approaches and adapt to new methods. For the educators to adapt, educational institutes should use these products as educational material.
